Harvey and Leeuwin celebrate 30-year partnership

Since 1989, the Shire of Harvey has supported local students between the ages of 14 and 25 to participate in Leeuwin’s sail training program.

This year, the Shire has fully-funded six local youth to join the Youth Explorer Voyage departing from Fremantle on 7 October.

Timo Marren, Oliver Gracey, Tyler Lord, Emma Tinley, Jacob Johnson, and Abbie Turner were the successful recipients of this year’s sponsorship funding.

The program is also sponsored by the Lions Clubs of Harvey, Brunswick Junction and Australind and the Rotary Club of Harvey. This support from the Shire and the service clubs allows young people who live in the Shire to participate in the challenging but life-changing Youth Explorer Voyage.

To commemorate the significant 30-year milestone, each sponsored student was presented with a t-shirt and cap featuring both Leeuwin Ocean Adventure and the Shire of Harvey.

Leeuwin Ocean Adventure CEO, Carol Shannon, said the ongoing support from the Shire of Harvey has enabled countless students to come on board who otherwise may not have had the opportunity.

“The Shire has long been a supporter of ours – they truly recognise the value our youth development programs. On behalf of the whole organisation, I’d like to thank the Shire of Harvey and hope this positive partnership continues for another 30 years!”
