Leeuwin Representative visits Broome Career Expo

Last week, a Leeuwin representative attended the Broome Career Expo held onsite at Broome Senior High School to promote and allocate the Woodside Marine Career Scholarships to local youth.

As part of the three year sponsorship agreement, 60 Woodside Scholarships are available to young people aged 14-25 who live in the Broome, Roebourne, Karratha, Exmouth or Perth Metropolitan area and who are interested in a career in the marine environment or the maritime industry. Participants are able to board the STS Leeuwin II for a week-long adventure of a lifetime.

Leeuwin School Relations Coordinator Rachel Le Moignan commented on the regional visit.

“We love to annually visit the Kimberley region, and the Broome Career Expo was the perfect time to reach the schools in the area,” said Rachel.

“The atmosphere was wonderful, and the students were keen to engage, ask questions and overall showed such an interest in our Youth Leadership program.”

800 students were expected to attend the exhibition on the day, with students from several local high schools in attendance.

“The Leeuwin offered a draw in which students interested in a marine career could express their interest to win one of five Woodside Marine Career Scholarships. Winners will be announced this week and we can’t wait to welcome them on board a voyage later this year,” said Rachel.

While in town, the Leeuwin representative visited the Navy Cadets, Shire of Broome and North Regional TAFE. The Foundation help to continue their relationships in the region and build on new projects in 2018.

The Leeuwin Foundation is an award winning provider of personal development and leadership programs that provide key life skills for young people aged 14-25 that they will take into their studies, careers and community.

Since 1986, the Leeuwin has provided exciting and life-changing programs to more than 40,000 young people from across Australia.

The voyages aim to challenge and inspire young people to realise their personal potential and make a positive contribution to the wider community.
