Youth Adventure
Join Australia’s largest sail training ship for an unforgettable adventure!
Our seven-day Youth Adventure Voyages are designed for young people aged 14–24 looking to push their boundaries, discover new skills, and make life-long friendships through a unique sailing experience.
The STS Leeuwin II is a working ship and young trainees are part of our crew. On our voyages, trainees gain leadership skills, confidence, and resilience in a supportive, hands-on environment.
Whether climbing the rigging, navigating through teamwork, or learning to lead a watch, every moment on board builds connection, capability, and skills. Submit your application today!
About our voyages
Who Can Join?
Youth Adventure Voyages are designed for young people aged 14–24 who are ready to challenge themselves, build confidence and be part of a team. No previous sailing experience is required.
Where Do We Go?
The Captain departs harbour and chooses the best sailing direction based on wind and weather conditions — making every voyage unique. Fremantle voyages can take us up to Jurien Bay, or south to Bunker Bay near the tip of Cape Naturaliste. We have days out at sea and days at anchor where we try to go ashore, if the weather permits.
Family and friends can follow the ship’s journey live via the Live Tracker, below.
A Typical Day
This is a working ship — and you are part of the crew. During the voyage you will be:
- Set and furl the sails
- Climb the masts and work aloft
- Stand watch during day and night sailing
- Learn teamwork, leadership and navigation skills
Weather conditions, watch rotations and ship positioning shape each day — there is never a dull moment.
On the final full day, trainees take charge. You will nominate a relief crew from within your teams and put your leadership and teamwork skills to the test as you help chart the ship’s course to a new anchorage.
Cost
Our seven day Youth Adventure Voyages cost $3,122, per participant.
We understand that voyage costs can be a barrier for individuals and families, which is why we are happy to discuss potential funding options to support interested trainees. There is space in the voyage application form to let us know that you need support. We will then contact you to discuss potential options.
The Leeuwin Ocean Adventure Foundation is a not-for-profit, and all funds directly support the our operations, the maintenance, and future youth programs.
