Leeuwin Ocean Adventure is partnering with Telethon to provide an extraordinary experience for kids with disability through the Ultimate Dockside Camp at B Berth, Fremantle.

For children aged 11-15, the Ultimate Dockside Camp aims to supplement other programs in children’s lives as something memorable, unique, and special to trigger social development and learning.

Joined by their parents or carers or stepping out on their own with the support of Leeuwin’s crew and volunteers, kids will get to sleepover on STS Leeuwin II and participate in interactive activities to promote critical thinking and communications skills, confidence, and independence.

Leeuwin Ocean Adventure Chief Executive Officer, Carol Shannon said the program is an incredible opportunity for children with disability to experience something new and exciting.

“The Ultimate Dockside Camp provides a unique platform for children with disability to participate in a combination of physical activity, social interaction with new friends, learning and play,” said Carol.

“The program enables kids to develop friendships, build confidence and inspire them to become advocates for themselves,” she added.

The Camp takes children into a different environment and gives participants a taste of what it’s like working on a tall ship. Whether it’s climbing out onto the bowsprit of the vessel or sweeping the galley floor after dinner; having a go at making a knot bracelet or sleeping on the top bunk of three; watching a massive container ship enter or leave port and appreciating the lights and action of the port after dark; or early morning exercises on the deck; the overnight camp offers new experiences.

Both Telethon and Leeuwin are passionate about supporting young people living with disability and aim to provide meaningful experiences that encourage growth and education.

“The Camp is made possible by Telethon and our shared passion for empowering youth to reach their fullest potential. We’re grateful for their support to deliver a uniquely Western Australia experience,” said Carol.

The program will be fully supported by Leeuwin Ocean Adventure’s professional crew and volunteer to ensure it is an enjoyable and safe experience for all.
