CEO Update – October
It is deeply gratifying to be sailing with young people again and fulfilling Leeuwin’s purpose. Our first two youth voyages were a success, with feedback from trainees and parents showing that the Leeuwin impact is alive and well. Seeing young people return with greater confidence, new friendships and a sense of what they can achieve is a powerful reminder of why we do this work.
The blessing of Leeuwin II was a deliberate waypoint in our return to sailing, a moment to come together, honour our ship and all who sail aboard her, and face the future. It marked our intention to move forward in safe hands, with renewed purpose and a clear focus on the young people we serve.
Our new staff are out in the community, connecting with schools and groups and opening conversations about how more young people can experience Leeuwin. These relationships will help us build a program that responds to their needs and creates opportunities to learn and grow at sea.
Our volunteer pool is also growing, bringing amazing new people alongside those who have generously supported Leeuwin for many years. Their generosity of spirit, skills and willingness to contribute are helping us build momentum. There is much still to do, but it is heartening to see our community coming together around the ship and her purpose.
Thank you for all the support.
Fair winds,
Jo Lynch
