Civmec and OneSteel sponsor Leeuwin Fore and Main Mast replacements
In the 2017 Leeuwin refit period, companies Civmec Construction and Engineering and OneSteel have generously sponsored the steel to replace the Fore and Main masts of the STS Leeuwin II.
After over thirty years in service, the fore and main masts were scheduled to be replaced during the 2017 annual maintenance period, held this year from July – September.
The current masts were removed at Northport Marine on 6 July 2017 and the new masts will be welded back in place by mid-August 2017.
Leeuwin CEO, Carol Shannon, speaks about how important the mast replacements is during this refit period.
“We are so thrilled that Civmec and OneSteel have together generously supplied the steel for the new masts – which has been delivered and the masts are already starting to take shape,” said Ms Shannon.
