CEO Update – September

There is a renewed sense of energy at Leeuwin as we prepare for the youth sailing season ahead.

Over recent months, our focus has been on rebuilding the team and ensuring we have the right people, skills and support in place. We have welcomed new staff, reconnected with experienced members of the Leeuwin community and continued working alongside our remarkable volunteers.

At the heart of this work is a renewed focus on our purpose: creating powerful experiences for young people. We want every voyage to help young people build confidence, form meaningful connections, take responsibility and discover more of what they are capable of.

We have also had the opportunity to pause and celebrate the people who have shaped Leeuwin. Our Volunteer Awards Night allowed us to thank some of our special volunteers for their generosity and contribution, while Leeuwin’s 40th birthday brought together four decades of crew and volunteers to share memories and celebrate the remarkable community built around the ship.

Preparations aboard STS Leeuwin II are also well underway. The ship has completed her shakedown activities, and the crew and volunteers have been undertaking a thorough deep clean and working through the many practical jobs required to prepare her for the season.

There is still plenty to do, but it is wonderful to see the ship and organisation coming back to life. We are looking forward to welcoming young people aboard and beginning this next chapter together.
