A message from the CEO
Many of you will already know that the impact of COVID-19 on Leeuwin Ocean Adventure has been swift. Last week, the decision was made that Voyage 20-08 would be the last for the 2019-20 season. In order to protect the health, safety and well being of all on-board including trainees, volunteers, members of the public and crew, all voyages, day sails, chartered sails and alongside events until September 2020 have been cancelled.
We know how important STS Leeuwin II is to the Western Australian community. Almost 45,000 young people have sailed with us. We’ve expanded horizons, built resilience, facilitated life-long friendships and changed young peoples’ pathways.
We will have one focus over coming months and that is to secure the future of Leeuwin – to continue to do what we do so incredibly well, to continue to provide young people with amazing opportunities and get back their commitment and dedication to Leeuwin Ocean Adventure’s objectives while we witness their development and growth as future community members and leaders.
We know we are looking at tough times ahead. We also know there are going to be difficult decisions that will have to be made. Please have confidence in our approach and the decisions we make.
More than ever before we will be dependent upon community, corporate and government support. We encourage you to write to us with your reminiscences or send us your messages of support – they will make a world of difference.
Carol Shannon
