Leeuwin Education Manager builds relations
In February, the Leeuwin recruited our new Education Manager, Michelle Reidy-Crofts. With the engagement of an Education Manager, Leeuwin is building on its existing voyage program endorsement through the School Curriculum and Standards Authority, providing different educational and personal development opportunities through access to the Sail Training Ship Leeuwin II, including overnight and weekend experiences for students and school groups.
Michelle introduces a little about herself.
“As an adventurous youth I wasn’t sure what to do and changed degrees from BSc Nursing and BA Commerce to eventually settle down as a mature age to complete a BA Psych and Grad Dip Education (Secondary) specialising in Visual Art and Health,” said Michelle.
“I was attracted to the role with Leeuwin Ocean Adventure after visiting the office and seeing what a wonderful program this offers to the youth and how enthusiastic all the staff are, I promptly submitted my resume to be considered for any future possibilities!”
Michelle strives to strengthen the endorsement from the School Curriculum and Standards Authority.
“I aim to increase the awareness of the benefits of the Youth Explorer Voyages to schools for their students to be given the opportunity to realise their personal capabilities and personal best and hope as many as possible get to experience such a wonderful adventure.”
“I believe the students are better equipped to take on the senior school years with a more positive approach, given the social media climate and mental health issues many face today, after developing self-management, team work and leadership skills and many more achievements after a voyage.”
Michelle recently completed voyage 1806 onboard the ship, and is excited to hit the ground running after her own week-long adventure.

Duke of Edinburgh’s Bronze Options
In 2018, Leeuwin Ocean Adventure has introduced options for our participants of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Bronze Award. There are two options, one alongside overnight and one at sea overnight.
Weekend Leadership
From 22 – 24 February 2019, the ship will experience its first ever Weekend Leadership Voyage. This voyage is a 3-day intensive leadership skills workshop – unique, powerful and great fun!
