Below is an overview of the scholarships that are currently available. Group Training South West understand apprenticeships, traineeships, recruitment and labour hire, and ride themselves on their ability to consistently provide reliable quality workers.
Fully funded by Group Training South West a sponsorship is available for one youth who is currently completing a trade apprenticeship in WA.
- Be 14 years old or over at the time of the voyage (dates below).
- Currently completing a trade apprenticeship in WA.
- Be available between 15 – 21 June 2018.
Each year, the Shire of Harvey’s Community Sail Training Trust Committee invite applications from local youth 15 – 25 to apply for a scholarship to sail on a Leeuwin Adventure Voyage. The scholarships are funded through a number of local Harvey organisations, including the Lions Clubs of Harvey, Brunswick and Australind and the Harvey Rotary Club.
Applications are now open for the 2018 Leeuwin voyages (1813, 1816, 1818 and 19UC).

Fully funded by RMD Tankers and supported by the Rockingham Kwinana Chamber of Commerce a sponsorship is available to a deserving young person who has shown commitment to their own community
and personal development from the Rockingham area who wishes to participate on a Leeuwin Youth Explorer Voyage.
The Cunderdin Lions Club Scholarship is an exclusive scholarship to the value of $2,300 to fund a voyage on the STS Leeuwin II in 2018/2019.
This scholarship is born out of a desire for the Club to play a role in the lives of young members of the Cunderdin community and to help those people fulfil their opportunities and potential. The scholarship is intended for a young proactive individual aged 15 – 24 years old, who has leadership potential and is ready to embrace personal challenge.
Applications close 29 April 2018.
This Woodside Scholarship is aimed at young people aged 14-25, who reside in WA and are interested in a career in the marine environment or the maritime industry.
In January 2019, the STS Leeuwin II will return to Albany for the first time in almost a decade.
Southern Ports have generously provided part sponsorship for two young people from the Great Southern region for a voyage arriving into, or departing from, Albany Port.
Each successful participant will need to fund $250 towards the the total cost of their voyage experience, plus the cost of their transport to/from Fremantle.
- Be between the age of 14 – 25 years
- Reside in the Great Southern region
In February 2018, Amy Kirke (24) raised funds for Leeuwin Ocean Adventure by swimming solo to Rottnest in honour of her grandfather, Neville Lord.
Ms Kirke chose to honour her grandfather in raising these funds as he was a valued volunteer of Leeuwin.
The sponsorship covers $2,241 of voyage fare. The successful recipient is to pay the gap fare of $59 by 7 May 2018 and is responsible for travel costs to and from STS Leeuwin II.
- Be 14 years old or older at the time of the voyage.
- Have a social, geographical or economical limitation that prevents them from attending a Youth Explorer Voyage.
- Preference taken to an applicant with an interest in a career in the maritime industry or marine environment, but is not essential.
- Be available between 15 – 21 June 2018 (Geraldton to Fremantle).
