The Leeuwin returns to Albany
The STS Leeuwin II is returning to the Great Southern region for the first time in nearly ten years!
Arriving into King George Sound on Saturday 12 January, the Leeuwin will be welcomed by a small fleet of ships – locals are invited and encouraged to come down and wave the ship in.
On Sunday 13 January, those who are hungry for adventure can hop on board the Leeuwin for 3-hours of sailing fun. From 10am-1pm, the Leeuwin will head out on the water for a day sail. Participants are invited to take part in various on board activities such as hauling the lines and climbing the rigging. Tickets for the day sail are available online or through the Albany Visitor Centre.
If an at sea adventure isn’t your cup of tea, be sure to visit the Leeuwin on Monday 14 January as the ship will be open to the public from 12noon to 4pm. For a donation entry, you can explore every nook and cranny of the Leeuwin and get a taste for what life at sea would be like. The Leeuwin team will be running tours from 1-3pm.
Leeuwin Ocean Adventure Chief Executive Officer, Carol Shannon, said she’s excited to be bringing the Leeuwin back to Albany in 2019.
“It’s always good fun when we sail the Leeuwin to WA’s regional communities. The trip to Albany is a real highlight, both for Albany locals as well as Leeuwin staff and volunteers.”
The Leeuwin will depart Albany on Thursday 17 January, and head back to home-base in Fremantle.
